Godfather's Pizza- Madisonville, KY

I know....  what's so special about a chain pizza place in a mall?

Well, years ago, when me and my buddies first got our driver's licenses, we were itching to go to new places.  ANY place new.  Madisonville was less than an hour drive from us.  We had always heard of it, but never been there, so we went to Madisonville.

Madisonville was smaller than Owensboro, but it was still a city big enough to have stuff going on- including a nice mall.

Going to Madisonville...  and the Madisonville Mall was something fun and new to us.  It was different.

This little Godfather's Pizza has been a constant at the mall.... at least as long as I have been going there.  I like their pizza and breadsticks.  And there is something very cozy about the dine-in area here.

Its dim with glassless windows looking into the mall.  For some reason, I think all great pizza shops should be dim.  Especially a "Godfather's" pizza.  Dim is good for...  you know, secretive conversations.  Private business.  Dark pizza places make me think of pizza places in the 80s too.

Even now, whenever I drive through or to Madisonville, I like going to Godfather's.

I like going here for nostalgia's sake... and because I like the food.

I stopped by the other day and I thought it was cool that they had the place all decorated up for Halloween.  Check out the photos.  They did a good job.

Country Cupboard in Madisonville Kentucky

My family insisted that I go to this place last time I was in Madisonville.  So, we all went to the MASSIVE buffet at Country Cupboard in Madisonville Kentucky.

Country Cupboard is kind of hidden, but still easy to get to right behind the mall.

Anyway, we got there for an early lunch on a Saturday and we loved the place.

I have to admit, there are certain places I like to go to over and over in Madisonville.  AND, when I am in this area, I usually hit the Godfather's Pizza in the mall.  I loved that chain, and they have about the only one left that I know of.  So, I was a little reluctant to make my way to Madisonville and NOT go for pizza in the mall.

But I am glad we went here.  The food is the real deal.  EVERYTHING was perfect.  I had some chicken, BBQ, mac and cheese....  well, I had about all they had to offer and they did it all right.  Pretty sure everything was homemade.

The place has a religious vibe.  I saw a picture of Jesus up.  Our waiter was friendly and everyone was polite.  This place has a mature, pleasant vibe.

Big City Coffee Madisonville, Kentucky

It had been a little while since my last trip through Madisonville, and I was excited to see that they have a NICE independent coffee shop now!  Good for you, Madisonville!

Big City Coffee has actually been around for a few years now, but this was my first time getting to stop by.  Man, these guys are doing everything right.  They have a roomy, cozy and slick place downtown.

Check out the cool art on the walls, and check out their menu!

I do hope they eventually think about longer hours, as they close most weekdays before the work crowd heads home.

BUT, if you are a fan of coffee shops where they care about a great product, and a nice, clean atmosphere, this is the place!

Downtown Madisonville Kentucky

Madisonville has ALWAYS been one of my favorite little towns to just hang out in.  It has small town charm, easy going folks, and it is just barely big enough to have a cool, small mall!

It has an attractive downtown too!  Here are some random photos from downtown I took not too long ago....

Hanson Kentucky

Near Madisonville is the very cool small community of Hanson!

It had been some time since I had been able to stop here.  They were having a pretty cool little street fair when I stopped by.

I will have to go back on another day to get better shots of the buildings downtown.

Anyway, back when I collected old toys, there used to be an amazing antique and collectible toy shop on the corner.  There is a gaming shop there now.  Also, a VERY cool old book store is next door.  Luckily, that business is still around!

Muffler Man near Madisonville (sort of)

HEY! I don't think there are currently ANY muffler men in the state of Kentucky. VERY sad.

There IS the body of a muffler man near Madisonville! My dad actually spotted this one on a trip through western Kentucky.

He has no arms, and it looks like they have tried to make a head for him. Someone, help hook these guys up with a repro muffler man head (does such a thing exist?!?)!

He is on private property, but you can see him easily, though at a distance. I reported him to roadsideamerica.com and they have put an entry up for him!
