Monroeville Zombies- Monroeville, PA
http://www.monroevillezombies.com/
If your a fan of zombie movies (and lets be honest, who isn't?) then you know about Monroeville, PA.
I have been to Monroeville many times and it is just a nice part of the Pittsburgh area.
In case you didn't know, the original Romero "Dawn of the Dead" was filmed in the mall. Obviously there are MANY changes that have occurred since the film, but it is still THE mall to visit if you are a horror movie fan.
I know the convention center next to the mall has hosted several comic and toy conventions with a zombie association. Cast members and extras have been available at times for autograph signings.
When I lived closer to the area, I would go to some of these cons and I always had a good time.
In fact, one year there was a walk through the mall after it closed. We went on the mall tour with some cast members and it was a lot of fun. The tour through the mall was included as part of the 4 DVD set reissue that came out some years ago. We briefly appear on that DVD!
These days, there is an actual "Zombie Museum" set up inside of the mall.
Check it out, these guys have done a very nice job. I personally enjoyed the actual masks from some of the films, and the models made showing scenes from the film.
I think they are asking for a $1 donation when you visit! I would have given them more for sure! I did try to support them by making some purchases in their gift shop. They have many unique zombie related shirts, toys, stickers and posters.
Monroeville is a great road trip for Halloween or really anytime. There are many other Romero related filming locations near by too!
