A trip to the Adams Tennessee area is becoming an annual tradition for us. This is simply a great town for anyone who loves Autumn and Halloween.
I have mentioned Adams and the Bell Witch legend several times before. I won't repeat the legend here, but look it up. It centers around a ghost that harassed the Bell family in this area starting around 1820.
Adams is forever linked to the legend as it is the main reason for the town's notoriety. You see mentions of the Bell Witch everywhere in town.
We went by the Bell Witch Cave for the tour. I really like going here, as the cave is run by a family that obviously loves it. I know the farmer who owns and operates the places has been criticised for having a rough attitude.
I disagree with that criticism. The guy obviously cares about the property and its history. He has always been very pleasant with our groups. I have seen him get on to people who speed down his driveway or act jerky.
Also, since this is more of a family ran place, the vibe is a bit more casual than at other show caves. The Bell Witch cave is wet and dark. It has a darker and more wild feel than other tourist caves.
PLUS, the Bell Witch Cave gift shop stocks rare books, and they even do their own printings of some of the rarer books on the legend. That is VERY cool when you think about it.
One of my other favorite places to visit while in Adams has been the old school.
The last couple of years we have gone, the old school had a great antique mall in it. Unfortunately, it looks like that mall is no longer there.
They still have a community museum (with lots of stuff relating to the Bell Witch) and they still have the VERY cool cafeteria! This place alone is worth driving out of your way for! I had a fried Oreo on this visit! They are always cookin' something good here.
I know I have talked to several people who enjoy the odd and strange road trip. If you haven't done so yet, you should make sure yo visit this area this October!
