Mayday! Mayday! Aircraft Crashes in the Great Smoky Mountains
I picked up "MAYDAY! MAYDAY!" by Jeff Wadley and Dwight McCarter recently and read it in no time. This is a very interesting book that covers all known aircraft crashes that have occurred in the Great Smoky Mountains.
This is a really well done book by a couple of guys who have participated in search and rescue, and they obviously know the Great Smoky Mountains inside and out.
The book is in sections by decades. The authors do a great job of telling what became of the sites and the aircraft. They even go back and interview some of the notable survivors! Interestingly, it seems that some craft have gone down in the area never to be found again-showing the massive scale of the area.
Some stories are heroic and others tragic, but this is a very interesting read if you love the Smoky Mountains!
