I picked up the book "Unsolved Disappearances in the Great Smoky Mountains" by Juanitta Baldwin and Ester Grubb recently.
This is an interesting, though sad book about people who have disappeared in the Great Smoky Mountains.
The first three cases in this book are the most intriguing. Each individual was with a group of friends or family. They very briefly go off for just a moment alone. All three are never found. A check believed to be from one surfaces months later. Otherwise, there are no traces of them at all.
The thing that really got to me about each case was the fact that all were known to be missing pretty quickly. People are searching for them moments after they are noticed missing.
One fugitive escapes in to the park, and his whereabouts are still unknown.
The authors also show proof that a 60 year old unsolved mystery was actually solved immediately, but no one noticed.
This is a well written, easy to read book. It originally came out in 1998, then it was updated in 2000. I did some searches, and I don't think there are any major updates to the book.
